After seven years in one place, I changed jobs. So far, so good.
Travel
Visited Italy. Sadly, I didn't manage to visit two countries, but considering the new job, it was expected. Italy is beautiful, but expensive, and without a bike it's not quite what I love. But interesting.
Sports
Spent 95 hours in the pool, swam 33 km.
Spent 110 hours doing yoga.
Rode almost 400 km on my bike around the city, just running errands, another 1740 km through forests, fields, and other cross-country trails, and 437 km on tarmac.
Spent 72 hours on the elliptical trainer, 20 hours pumping iron with barbells and dumbbells.
Ran 44 km outside.
Attended 3 cyclocross/cycling marathons: in Līvāni, Daugavpils, and I don't remember where else. Not bad.
Tourism, etc.
Hiked through the wilderness 6 times, totaling 81 km.
Participated in our official MTB rides 23 times, for 1741 km.
Went ice skating twice – 23 km.
Played Laser Tag about 4 times, fun stuff.
Organized or co-organized around 10 serious and not-so-serious bike rides, the best one being the “Museum of Ethnocosmology”.
Went paragliding with Max Dubovsky.
Couchsurfing and all that
Hosted guests from Poland, Germany, China, Belarus, Slovenia and Latvia and Ukraine and Russia, totaling 9 people. The most interesting one, predictably, was the Chinese guy.
Culture and entertainment
Finished writing the series of posts about Israel.
Attended three “official” festivals, a mini-festival in Preiļi, and a Gas Of Latvia concert there too. As well as two concerts of modern avant-garde musicians (Carlos Cipa and Plaistow) at the Rothko Center. Best festival - Yaga Gathering, best concert – Carlos Cipa.
Hosted 17 meetings of the “Pereplyot” book club, where we read 9 books.
Visited a sensory deprivation tank, aka floating (www.floutings.lv). It's alright, albeit expensive.
Played curling. Fun, and surprisingly competitive.
Watched 17 movies, read around 20 books.
Best movie – probably Interstellar, best fiction book – “The Player of Games” from Banks's Culture series, and generally the whole series altogether. Best non-fiction – “The Willpower Instinct”. But “The Rebel Sell” is also not bad.
Miscellaneous
Donated blood twice.
Met even more new and interesting people, though not as many as last year.
Judging by toodledo.com, completed 68 different written-down tasks.
The bottom line
The most memorable thing this year was riding our bikes to the ethnocosmology museum in the spring. Scary cold at night, but fun, and daytime was tough, but interesting.
